Winning the Jackpot on a slot machine is a very rare event. It is a common misconception that all events on a slot machine are equally likely. This was once the case, many years ago, when slots were purely mechanical. For example, on a three reel machine, with 20 stops, and one Jackpot on each reel, the probability of winning was 1 in 8000 or one chance out of all possible combinations on the machine that are equally likely to occur. Today, electronic slot machines are configured to give a particular level of "feedback" to the customer based on a reel weighting system. Each reel has a different weight of outcomes that, when combined with the other reels, determines the payout percentage of the machine.
